Megan Bickford is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who began her journey working with children, adolescents, and families while obtaining her undergraduate degree at Wheelock college. She started in the field with at-risk and homeless youth in Boston, doing street outreach, visiting homeless shelters, and working on the free medical van at Bridge Over Troubled Waters.
While obtaining her masters degree in Social Work from Boston College, she completed internships at Massachusetts General Hospital’s pediatric inpatient unit and The Department of Children and Families in Arlington. After completing her MSW, Megan spent the next 8 years working at an outpatient dialysis clinic, providing supportive counseling for patients with chronic illness and their families. During this time Megan also provided clinical supervision to other social workers obtaining their LICSW.
Despite enjoying her work with adults, Megan felt a strong desire and passion to return to working with children and families. So in 2015, she decided to join Dr. Bermingham at MWCWB. Megan is a lifelong learner who invests in ongoing professional development. Her recent interests include learning hypnotherapy as an additional treatment of anxiety disorders, as well as increasing her knowledge of the neuroscience of the adolescent brain. She is also an active member of NASW (National Association of Social Workers).
In her work at MWCWB, Megan uses an eclectic, compassionate and collaborative approach, individualizing care for each client. She utilizes evidence-based practices, including CBT, DBT, and mindfulness in her sessions. The ultimate goal of her work is to empower children and their families so they can find positive solutions and enhance their own well being and quality of life.
